WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS.

We accept submissions in all the sub-genres, including romance, as long as it isn't formula and preferably contains paranormal elements, and any and all combinations thereof. We embrace the unusual and original. If it's outside the box, we would like the opportunity to consider your proposal.

Approximate required word count:

•  Shorter works- 15,000 - 21,000 words
•  Novellas – 22,000 - 45,000 words
• Full novels - 55,000 words and up

We do NOT accept:

• Poetry

Or works that include: 

• Sexual abuse or rape - (unless it is a scene that is absolutely vital to the story line)
• Political agenda
  
• Extreme violence
  
• We will also reject works that includes abuse of children, spousal abuse,murder, in other words, please send us novels that will take the reader out of the realm of everyday existence.

We look for solid plots, well-developed settings and characters that are 'fully realized'. We want originality and professional level story telling. History should be well researched and totally fictional worlds must be visualized clearly. Get your facts straight and keep the 'rules' of either science or magic consistent.

What we don't want are stories that are essentially a thin plot stringing scenes together or characters whose motivations and personalities are shallow and stereotypical.

Extensive use of vocabulary is a must, and reliance on standard cliches is discouraged.

 Sensual/sexual scenes are okay, but gratuitous sex is not.  Graphic descriptions of genitalia should also be avoided, as well as purple prose. A love scene is more than the 'act'. It's about the characters' feelings, thoughts and sensations. Make the language appropriate to the setting

Show, don't tell. 

Keep your story original and different. Nothing loses a reader's interest faster than having characters do the same thing over and over with only minor variations.

 All submissions must be professionally presented and 'camera ready' -- no typos, spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, and we don't like a sloppy point of view. First drafts will not be considered unless an editor has requested that an author submit an unrevised work in progress.

Editors-in-chief at DD have been writing and editing and publishing work for over thirty years. They will help you polish your manuscript and offer advice on how to improve the plot, characterization and vocabulary - make you stretch your writing - but they will not read work that shows lack of knowledge of the writing basics. 

Manuscripts should be prepared as follows:

• Please submit all works in RTF Word format.
• Margins: 1" (inch) top, bottom, left, right.
• Single line spacing.
• Tabs set at 0.2"
• Plain text only, no fancy formatting.
• Times New Roman 12 point font.

Include first five chapters, synopsis, length of manuscript and cover letter with author credits.
